Ray Bristow hit four 3-pointers |
DAVIDSON, NC - A 21-10 run to open the second half helped lift Davidson to a 80-69 victory over UNC Greensboro Saturday evening Southern Conference men's basketball action.
With the win, Davidson moves to 9-11 on the season and 4-5 in Southern Conference play. UNCG slips to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in league play.
After trailing by one at the half, Davidson took control of the game in the second half by outscoring UNCG, 21-10, in the first six and a half minutes. Matt McKillop, who was held scoreless in the first half, scored six, while Jouni Eho's 3-pointer from the left wing capped off the run and put the Wildcats up 44-34.
The Spartans managed to cut the lead to just four, 52-48, on a Burrell jumper, but couldn't get any closer.
UNCG took a slim 24-23 lead into the intermission behind 10 points from Ronnie Burrell. The first half of play saw seven ties and five lead changes. The Spartans took their first lead of the contest, 11-9, on a Jay Joseph 3-pointer from the left wing. It marked the 49th time in the last 50 games that Joseph connected on at least one 3-point bucket. The Spartans' largest lead of the half was just four points, 22-18. A 5-0 run put Davidson up 23-22 late in the half before a Josh Gross basket gave the Spartans the final lead of the half.
Ronnie Burrell paced UNCG with20 points, while Ray Bristow connected on four 3-pointers for 18 points.
Ian Johnson led six Wildcats in double figures with 14 points. As a team, Davidson connected on 21-of-29 free throws, compared to UNCG who went 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.
UNCG will return to action again on Monday, February 2, at East Tennessee State. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm. Davidson will next square off against The Citadel on Tuesday, February 3, in Charleston.
