UNCG Baseball Doubles-Up North Carolina A&T, 10-5

Wes McCall improves to 2-0 on the season

GREENSBORO, NC –A six-run sixth inning helped propel the UNC Greensboro baseball team to 10-5 come-from-behind victory over North Carolina A&T Tuesday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.

UNCG (4-0) sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning. Five Spartans reached base before the Aggies could muster an out. The Spartans pushed across their first run of the inning on a bases loaded walk to Chris Mason. Justin Crist followed with an RBI single to center to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Aggies. Jake Linney brought in UNCG's third run on a fielder's choice. Jay Maule evened the game at 4-4 on a run-scoring single to left. The Spartans took the lead for good on a pair of unearned runs later in the inning.

North Carolina A&T (1-5) opened up a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run to right center field by catcher Raul Santiago.

In the fourth, the Aggies plated a pair of runs to increase their lead to 4-0. First baseman Patrick Oakes drove in both runs on a double left field.

Wes McCall (2-0) tossed five innings of two-hit relief to pick up the win for the Spartans. McCall, the left-hander from Gastonia, NC struckout a career-high six batters. Clint Summers (0-1) suffered the loss out of the bullpen for the Aggies.

Crist and Maule led the Spartans with two hits each, while Mason drove in two runs. Oates went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Aggies.

The Spartans travel to Wilmington, NC for the Hughes Brothers Baseball Challenge on February 25-27. UNCG will take on George Mason on Friday at 11 a.m., then will take on James Madison on Saturday at 3 p.m. UNCG will wrap up the weekend against the host Seahawks on Sunday at 5 p.m.
