Jeremy Roulin Leads UNCG Baseball Past The Citadel, 14-6

Jeremy Roulin led the Spartans with four hits

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro senior third baseman Jeremy Roulin went 4-for-6 with four RBI to lead the Spartans to a 14-6 win over The Citadel in Southern Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

 

Roulin registered four hits for the second time in his career, raising his batting average to a team-best .344 on the season.

 

Justin Crist went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI, while Chris Mason, Jay Maule, Sean Snell and David Adams added two hits apiece to pace the Spartan offense that belted out a season-high 17 on the day. For the Bulldogs, Trent Weathers went 3-for-4 including two solo home runs coming in the second and fourth innings. Will Coker also drove in a pair of runs.

 

UNCG (10-5, 2-0 SoCon) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Roly Gonzalez doubled, then scored two batters later on Crist's single to right.

 

The Citadel (7-7, 0-2 SoCon) tied the game in the second, then took the lead in the third on Ryan Ard's double to left field that brought in Matt Covington from first.

 

The Spartans scored six times in the bottom of third to make it a 7-2 contest and would not give up the lead. With one out, Gonzalez walked and then scored one batter later on Mason's triple to center. Crist followed that up with a run-scoring single to center, while Crist scored on Maule's triple. Run-scoring singles by Jake Linney and Roulin rounded out the scoring in the third.

 

The Spartans expanded their lead in the fourth inning with four more runs. Back-to-back doubles by Mason and Crist gave UNCG an 8-3 lead. Greg Feltes brought in the next run on a bases loaded walk, while Roulin followed that up with a two-run single to center.

 

Patrick Currin (1-2) got the win for the Spartans. The right-hander from Chapel Hill, NC tossed 2-2/3 innings of middle relief, allowing two unearned runs. Wes McCall picked up his second save of the season. McCall, the freshman from Gastonia, NC allowed one earned run in the final 3-1/3 innings. Bulldog starter Griff Beckham (1-3) suffered the loss.

 

The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
