DAVIDSON, NC—Gregory Zage's bases loaded single in the ninth helped give Davidson to a 2-1 victory over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference baseball action Friday night at Wilson Field.
Justin Hartanov (2-1) got the win in relief for the Wildcats. Chris Mason (3-2) suffered the loss for the Spartans despite striking out a career-high 14 batters in eight innings of work.
Jay Maule paced the Spartans with two hits, while Zage had two for the Wildcats.
UNCG (11-6, 3-1 SoCon) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a solo home run by Maule. The home run for Maule was his third of the season.
Davidson (9-7, 1-3 SoCon) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Jay Heafner brought in Andrew Musashe from third on a sacrifice fly.
The second game of the weekend series is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
