DAVIDSON, NC— UNC Greensboro (13-6, 5-1 SoCon) used a four-run seventh inning en route to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory over Davidson (9-9, 1-5 SoCon) in Southern Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
In the seventh, UNCG got their first two runs of the inning on back-to-back bases loaded walks to Justin Crist and Jay Maule. The next batter, Logan Smith, who entered the game as a pinch hitter, drove in the tying run on a single to center field. Adam Deleo brought in the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly right that plated Crist.
Deleo added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a RBI-single to right that scored Maule who reached base on a two-out walk.
Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Davidson posted five runs to take a 5-2 lead. The inning was capped off by a two-out grand slam home run by Ronnie Shore. Shore finished the day with a game-high three hits and four RBI.
Wes McCall (3-0) got the win for the Spartans, while Justin Hartanov (1-2) recorded the loss for the Wildcats. McCall, the freshman left-hander from Gastonia, NC, tossed 3-1/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs, while striking out four batters.
Deleo, along with Chris Mason had two hits each to lead the Spartans. Jay Heafner, along with Eli Benefield and Alex Entrekin added two hits for the Wildcats.
The Spartans return to action for a two-game series against Albany beginning on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
