GREENSBORO, NC – East Tennessee State pounded out a season-high 18 hits as the Buccaneers defeated UNC Greensboro, 16-8, in Southern Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The win snapped ETSU's six-game losing streak.

Brian Lovett (3-2) got the win for the Bucs. The junior left-hander went five innings allowing four earned runs. Nick Starnes (3-2) suffered the loss.

East Tennessee State (12-7, 3-5 SoCon) got off to a 9-0 lead after two innings. In the first, the Bucs opened the scoring with a bases loaded walk to Stephen Douglas.  Anthony Russell drove in three of his four runs on the day with a double to left field. In the second inning, ETSU loaded the bases again and scored five times on five hits.  Caleb Moore brought in the first run on a single to center that scored Chuck Hargis who led the inning off with a single. Blake Church then drove in a pair on a single to right, while Matt Taylor plated two more on a double to right field.

The Bucs scored four more in the fourth to extend their lead to 13-1. John Weddle fueled the inning with a run-scoring triple to right field.    

For the Buccaneers, Hargis led the way with three hits and three runs scored, while Russell went 2-for-5 and drove in a game-high four runs.  UNCG (15-7, 6-2 SoCon) was paced by Sean Snell, who went 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Snell, the freshman catcher from Charlotte, NC, scored a team-high three runs and belted a solo home run in third inning. Jeremy Roulin and Chris Mason also had two hits for the Spartans who saw its four-game winning streak snapped. Roulin drove in a team-best three runs on the game, two coming on a double to left field that sparked a three-run Spartan fifth.  

The final game of the series is set for Easter Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission will be free for the game. UNCG baseball season tickets holders may save that game's ticket and use it to bring a guest to any remaining home game.
