GREENSBORO, NC— Jeremy Hall and Caleb Moore combined on a three-hit shutout as East Tennessee State defeated UNC Greensboro, 1-0 in Southern Conference baseball action on Easter Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Hall, the right-hander from Gray, TN, fanned a season-high 11 batters to improve to 4-1 on the season. Moore, who got the last out in the ninth, recorded his sixth save. Adam Krieger got the hard-luck loss for the Spartans. Krieger, the freshman from Clearwater, FL, went 6-2/3 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run.
Moore got ETSU (13-7, 4-5 SoCon) on the scoreboard in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Chuck Hargis. Hargis led the game off with a walk, stole second then advanced to third on a throwing error.
Greg Roberts had a game-high two hits for ETSU, who claimed its first series victory over the Spartans since the 1999 season. It was also the first series win for the Bucs in Greensboro.
The Spartans (15-8, 6-3 SoCon) return to action next weekend for a three-game SoCon series with Furman in Greenville, SC. The series starts Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. ETSU travels to Blacksburg, VA to take on Virginia Tech on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
