UNCG Baseball Defeats Cross-Town Rival N.C. A&T, 10-6

GREENSBORO, NC –Freshman Kory Judd, making his first collegiate start, struck out nine batters in six innings of work, as UNC Greensboro defeated cross-town rival North Carolina A&T, 10-6, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

 

Judd, the native of Cary, NC allowed no runs on three hits to record his first collegiate win. Joe McIntyre (1-3) suffered the loss for the Aggies allowing seven runs in four innings.

 

UNCG (22-11) got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the opening frame. Jake Linney drove in Jeremy Roulin with the game's first run on a double to right field. Three batters later, David Adams drove in a pair of runs on a single to left field. Adam Deleo closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Jay Maule.

 

The Spartans added a pair in the second inning to push the lead up to 6-0. Logan Smith led off with a single, advanced to second on a single by Roulin then moved over to third on a walk to Linney. Smith then scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Mason. Roulin scored the second run on a double steal.

 

After a run in the fourth, UNCG added three in the fifth to open up a 10-0 lead. Danny McClure reached base on a one out double then scored later when Mike Mongiello reached on a fielding error by the A&T shortstop. Deleo scored the next run with the help of a second error of the inning by the Aggies. Jon Denote closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI-single to right.

 

North Carolina A&T (20-23) got on the board with four runs in the eighth inning. Jeremy Jones and Patrick Oates highlighted the inning with run scoring singles. Jones drove in two more in the ninth on a two run home run to right field.

 

Roulin went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Mason and Adams each had two hits and two RBI. McIntyre went 3-for-4, while Jones went 2-for-5 with three runs batted in for the Aggies.

 

UNCG returns to action on Wednesday against UNC Asheville. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
