Clay Gibson improves to 2-0 |
HIGH POINT, NC – Clay Gibson and Patrick Currin combined on a five-hitter, as the UNC Greensboro baseball team defeated High Point, 3-1, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Erath Field.
The Spartans, who have won three straight, improve to 18-9, while High Point falls to 15-18.
Gibson, the freshman left-hander from Gastonia, NC, allowed two hits and no earned runs in five innings of work to improve his record to 2-0 on season. Currin, the junior from Chapel Hill, NC, tossed four innings of relief to pick up his third save of the year. Bubba O'Donnell got the loss for the Panthers. The right-hander allowed three runs in six innings of work to fall to 1-1.
Jeremy Roulin went 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Spartans. Randy Schwartz went 3-for-4 to lead High Point.
UNCG took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when David Adams drove in Jay Maule with a single to center.
Justin Crist pushed the Spartan lead to 2-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly that scored Roulin.
UNCG added another in the fourth on a two-out RBI-single by Roulin.
Ro Castro drove in Brett Lazar from third base in the fifth inning for the lone High Point run of the game.
UNCG returns to action for a SoCon weekend series against Georgia Southern. The series opens up on Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
