GREENSBORO, NC – Junior David Adams and Jake Linney each went 2-for-3 with a home run, while junior pitcher Chris Mason tossed his seventh complete game of the season, as the UNC Greensboro baseball team defeated Appalachian State, 6-3 in Southern Conference action Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The win secures UNCG its sixth straight 30-win season and its 10^th in the 15-year history of the program.

Mason, the right-hander from Cherryville, NC, allowed three runs on nine hits to improve to 6-5 on the year. With the complete game, Mason broke the single season mark of six, previously held by Jay Metzger in 2002. He also tied the UNCG career mark of nine held by Jonathan Jackson (1996-99).

Jonathan Reeder (2-9) got the loss for Appalachian State. The right-hander allowed six runs (five earned) in seven innings of work.

Appalachian State (10-38, 5-20 SoCon) opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Luis Arce.

UNCG (30-17, 16-10) tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom half of the second on a solo home run by Adams.

The Mountaineers took a 2-1 lead in third when Julian Brown scored from third on a wild pitch.

The Spartans answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Roly Gonzalez scored when Mason was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jeremy Roulin scored the second run on a fly out to right by Justin Crist.

Appalachian State tied the game up at 3-3 in the sixth inning. Brown singled up the middle, advanced to second on Brooks Haislip single to left then scored on Arce's single to center.

UNCG re-took the lead for good with a three-run seventh inning that was highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Roulin and Linney.

The final game of the three-game weekend series is set for Sunday at 1 pm.
