DAVIDSON, NC Davidson junior Stephen Curry scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Wildcats defeated UNC Greensboro, 68-46, in Southern Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Belk Arena.

UNCG, which was held to just 33 percent shooting from the floor, were led by Kendall Toney's 15 points off the bench. The Charlotte, NC native was 5-of-10 from the field, including three three-pointers. He was the only Spartan in double figures.

The win snapped a three-game home losing skid for the Wildcats. Davidson (23-6, 16-2 SoCon) had won 27 straight at Belk prior to that and has won 77 percent of its contests since the building opened 265 home games ago.

The Spartans (4-24, 3-16 SoCon) slowed the tempo down from the outset against the Wildcats, while Davidson tried to force the tempo with half-court traps. Mike Hardiman's three-pointer with 12:55 left in the opening half kept UNCG within a point at 10-9. The Spartans went the next five minutes without scoring, however, and Davidson scored eight straight to gain a nine-point advantage.

UNCG shot just 31 percent in the opening half (8-for-26) and committed 12 turnovers. Although the Wildcats weren't very much more effective from the field, shooting in the mid-30s for much of the half, Davidson finished the half on a 26-9 run and took a 36-18 lead to the locker room.

Davidson came out of the intermission and scored six straight points to extend the lead to 24, 42-18. UNCG scored seven in a row after a timeout to offset the quick start. The Wildcats, however, answered with eight in a row to push the lead back to 22 again.

The Spartans will close out the regular season with Fan Appreciation Day this Saturday at 2 pm against Elon. All tickets are at of reduced rate $5 for adults and $3 for youth and senior tickets with many in-game giveaways planned. The game will be televised throughout the Southeast on SportSouth.

FREE THROWS: The Spartans went with the line-up that finished Saturday's game to start the night on Wednesday. UNCG went with walk-ons Mike Hardiman and Sean Spooner, along with freshmen Elhanan Bone, Damian Eargle and DeAngelo Jackson. UNCG coach Mike Dement said afterwards that he felt that group had earned it with the way they had played in the second half on Saturday, actually beating Western Carolina in that second half by six... Hardiman, who is a native of Charlotte just down the road from Davidson, had been the only Spartan to not start a game thus far this season and gave UNCG the 19th different starting combination this season... the last time UNCG had a game with no double-figure scorers was November 27, 2004 at Duke. The Spartans nearly repeated that had it not been for a couple of three-pointers by Toney late.
