GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNCG women's basketball returns home for the first time since Jan. 7 as the Spartans entertain Georgia Southern at Fleming Gymnasium. The teams will tip at 4 p.m.
UNCG looks to snap a skid that has reached eight games after an 88-48 setback at Davidson Wednesday at Belk Arena. For the third time in the last four games, junior forward Janae' Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) posted a double-double with 14 points and a team-best 14 rebounds. Of those boards, 10 came off the offensive glass. Junior guard Breonna Patterson (Greensboro, N.C./Dudley) also reached double figures offensively with 14 points.
UNCG put up 68 shots from the field in the game but could hit just 21 of those attempts to finish with a 31-percent performance. Conversely, the Wildcats were able to drain 34 field goals to end up at 51 percent. Davidson also held a slight upper hand in rebounding, pulling down 42 as compared to 41 for the Spartans. The Wildcats scored 48 points in the paint and netted 27 points off 19 UNCG turnovers while also receiving 39 points from the bench.
• Saturday's contest marks the 37th between UNCG and Georgia Southern with the Spartans holding a 20-16 advantage in the series. The teams have split the last eight meetings with three decided by four points or less.
• In the last encounter between the programs, Sarah Folwell had season highs of 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Breonna Patterson added 11 points, but UNCG shot just 34.6 percent from the floor in falling 59-47 at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Spartans were cold from the field all night, shooting just 8-for-22 (36.4 percent) in the first half and 10-for-33 (33.3 percent) in the second. Georgia Southern shot 41.5 percent from the floor (22-for-53) on the night to snap its six-game losing streak. GSU's Meredyth Frye had a game-high 17 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Seniors Janay Wilson and Samantha Williams had 13 and 12 points, respectively, as they celebrated their Senior Night.
• Georgia Southern picked up a thrilling 61-58 home victory over Wofford last Sunday as Anna Claire Knight drained a 3-pointer from the wing as the buzzer sounded. Wofford overcame a 55-45 deficit in the last five minutes as Erin Frost hit two 3-pointers, and Jordan Frazier tied the game on a triple from the wing with 32 seconds left. Knight had a baseline jumper blocked but got her own rebound and Georgia Southern called timeout. With the shot clock winding down, Alexis Sams grazed the rim on a drive to the hoop and the ball went out of bounds off of the Terriers, setting the stage for the game-winning play.
• MiMi DuBose is leading the Eagles in scoring at 14.6 points a game. The junior ranks ninth on the GSU career list in 3-pointers (116) and posted career highs of 27 points and eight rebounds at College of Charleston. DuBose has led the Eagles in scoring in 13 contests this season.

UNCG returns to the road Monday, Jan. 28, traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. for a Southern Conference matchup at Wofford. Tipoff inside the Benjamin Johnson Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Spartans dropped a 62-47 decision at the venue last season.
