GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team returns to the course this week at the annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic Monday and Tuesday hosted by Georgia State at the 6,694-yard Berkeley Hill Country Club in Duluth, Ga. The Spartans are set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday where they will play 36 holes in day one, beginning on holes No. 7-10. Live scoring will be available via www.golfstatresults.com. The third and final round will have tee times Tuesday based on standings after the first two rounds.
The Spartans have been consistent this year, finishing in the top six in all three tournaments this fall. UNCG opened the year with a second place finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate followed by a sixth place showing at the VCU Shootout and a fourth place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. The Spartans have four players ranked in the top 15 in stroke average in the Southern Conference this season, the highest total in the league.
Junior Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) takes the Spartans' top spot in the lineup this week leading the team with a 72.78 stroke average through nine rounds, ranking seventh in the SoCon. Coalson has finished in the top 25 in all three tournaments, including a season-best finish of 10th place last time out at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. In that event, he posted his lowest round of the young season with a 69 in round two.
Senior Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) is second in the lineup this week and third on the team with a 73.11 stroke average, ranking 11th in the league. Dixon has posted back-to-back top 20 finishes entering the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, including a 15th place showing at the Wolfpack. He has posted two rounds of 68 this season in his first nine rounds.
Sophomore Carter Jenkins (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) is ninth in the SoCon and second on the team with a 73.00 stroke average. Jenkins opened the year with a ninth place finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate and recorded a 21st place showing at the Wolfpack when he posted scores of 72-72-73. He finished tied for eighth overall at this event last season, the Spartans' top finish, with a 3-under par 211 (72-70-69).
Sophomore Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) rounds out the Spartans in the top 15 of SoCon stroke average as he places 15th with a 73.67 total. He is coming off a 31st place showing last time out in Raleigh. Rounding out the Spartans' lineup this week is freshman Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) who has a 76.11 stroke average this fall in his rookie campaign.
Joining the Spartans in the field include host Georgia State, College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Davidson, Francis Marion, Mercer, Richmond, Samford, South Alabama, Troy and VCU.
