Softball Announces 2014 Fall Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Softball team will compete in seven games this fall, head coach Janelle Breneman announced Thursday. The Spartans will host a home doubleheader during the fall campaign.

"Anytime you put the uniform on I consider it a test of your work throughout the week," Breneman said. "Team practices will focus on the fundamentals that the game requires and the execution of team concepts.  We have added much needed depth at each position which is exciting.  I look forward to integrating our newcomers in with our strong returning nucleus."

The Spartans will open their fall schedule with a road trip to Charlotte Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.

"Whether it is game day or practice we will be building off of last year's strengths and working towards winning a championship," Breneman added.

On Sept. 21, UNCG will host former Southern Conference foe Elon for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Next the Blue and Gold will face Campbell on Sept. 27 at noon at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. In their second game, the Spartans will take on UNC Wilmington at 2 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

UNCG finishes the fall campaign with a doubleheader against North Carolina Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Forsyth Country Day school.

Last season, Breneman led UNCG to the SoCon Tournament Championship game for the second-straight season. The Spartans return 12 players from last year's team and welcome eight newcomers to the fold. UNCG finished with a 31-26 record, earning 30-plus wins in back-to-back seasons.
