Columbia, S.C.- The UNCG women's basketball team (1-0) is set to take on No. 2 South Carolina (1-0) inside the Colonial Life Arena Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Spartans are fresh off a 71-52 season opener win over Pfeiffer at home Friday night. The Gamecocks defeated No. 6/10 Ohio State in their home opener by an eight-point margin.

Sunday's matchup marks the seventh time in program history the two teams will meet and first time in 40 years. Last time they met, USC defeated the Spartans 71-66 January 31, 1975 in Elon, N.C. UNCG leads the all-time series 4-2.
UNCG is led by senior Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) who tallied 20 points in the season opener Friday night. Junior Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was second in scoring with 15 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Fellow junior India Timpton (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) logged the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
A'ja Wilson who tallied 20 points against the Buckeyes Friday night leads South Carolina. She added 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Alaina Coates was second in scoring with 17 points in 28 minutes shooting 6-of-9 from the floor. She also tallied a double-double grabbing 13 boards.
USC returns the top three scorers and rebounders from last season that reached the NCAA Final Four.
Sunday's game is the first time UNCG has played a top-25 opponent since the Spartans went head-to-head with No. 23 Florida State December 22, 2013. Last time UNCG played a team ranked inside the top-5 was No. 3 Ohio State November 25, 2009.
