Women's Basketball to Host North Carolina Central in New Year's Eve Matinee

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's women's basketball team (7-7) looks to end the 2015 portion of the season on a three-game win-streak Thursday when the Spartans host North Carolina Central (1-9) at 2 p.m. inside Fleming Gymnasium. Live stats will be available and video is available on the SoCon Digital Network with UNCG's Parker Southern is on the call.

UNCG is fresh off a 20-point win over Maryland-Eastern Shore Monday night. During the 71-51 win over UMES, senior guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) scored a game-high 29 points en route to becoming the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,588 career points. Mason surpassed alum Angie Polk-Jones '89 26-year old record on a three-pointer late in the game.

The Spartans are averaging 65.5 points per game this season and are shooting 38 percent from the field. They have been out rebounding their opponents by 2.4 rebounds per game and are averaging 9.1 steals per game. UNCG is currently on its first multi-game win streak of the season and is looking to finish non-conference play above .500 for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

NCCU is on a four-game losing streak with its last win coming against UNCG's last opponent, UMES, in MEAC play December 5. The Eagles are led by Tisha Dixon who averages 10.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. As a squad, NCCU averages 47.8 points per game and is outscored on average by 15.8 points per game in its 10 games this season.

Thursday is the sixth meeting between the two teams and first since December 29, 2012. The Spartans lead the series 5-0 and last beat NCCU 49-39 in Greensboro.
