Women's Basketball Looks to End UNC Asheville's Six-Game Win Streak Thursday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team travels to UNC Asheville (6-1) Thursday night to start a four-game road stand at 7 p.m. inside Kimmel Arena. The Spartans are fresh off a 82-55 rout of Barton (4-4) Monday night.  Live video will be provided by UNC Asheville via the Big South Network and live stats will be available. Both links can be found in UNCGSpartans.com.

UNCG (4-5) is coming off a strong performance from junior India Timpton (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) who had a career-high 13 rebounds while adding eight points, three assists and a block. Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) had a game-high 23 points against Barton continuing her impressive start to her final season donning the blue and gold.

Mason has had 20 or more points in all nine games UNCG has played this season. She ranks third in the nation and leads the Southern Conference in scoring with 25.3 points per game and has recorded the game-high is eight of the Spartans nine games thus far.

Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Scaife tallied a season-high 17 points in last Monday's win against Barton where she made seven-of-nine from field goal range and added a threesome of free throws.

Keli Foster (Hampton, Va./Bethel) had a career-high 11 points against Barton. The sophomore guard came off the bench to score all 11 points in the second half and dished out a game-high six assists, also a career-high. Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) got back on track Monday night with eight points off the bench.

UNC Asheville is on a six-game winning streak for the first time under fourth-year head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpacktrick after dropping its season opener at East Tennessee State. The 6-1 start is also the best of the Division I era for the Bulldogs. Asheville leads the Big South in scoring offense (77.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.436) and three-point field goal percentage (.356).

Thursday's matchup marks the 17th time the two programs have played since first meeting during the 1991-92 season. UNCG leads the all-time series 14-2 and has won four of the last five meetings. Last time the two faced off UNC Asheville defeated UNCG 77-70 inside Fleming Gymnasium during the 2007-08 season. UNCG is 6-1 all-time at UNC Asheville.
