NC State threatened to add the lead with the bases loaded, but junior catcher Jake Hall caught Chance Shepard napping at third and picked him off to end the frame.

Senior infielder Aaron Wright helped UNCG trim its deficit to 5-3 in the top of the sixth, leading off with a triple to right center and scoring on a RBI infield single by Ruiz.
