Women's Basketball Travels to ETSU for First SoCon Road Game

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team 8-9 (0-2 SoCon) hits the road for its first Southern Conference road match of the season Thursday. The Spartans travel to ETSU (9-8, 1-1 SoCon) for a 7 p.m. game against the Bucs at Brooks Gym. UNCG is looking for it's first SoCon road win since February 9, 2013 when the Spartans defeated Samford 52-51 in Birmingham, Ala.

The Spartans are coming off a pair of tough home losses to Mercer and Samford. UNCG has not been on the road since December 21, 2015 when they beat Cleveland State in the second game of the Tulane Classic in New Orleans, La.

The Spartans are 2-2 over their last four-game home stand and hit the road for ETSU Thursday and preseason SoCon favorite Chattanooga (11-5) Saturday, January 16.

UNCG is leading the SoCon in scoring average with 67.6 points per game. Senior guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) is fifth in the nation with her SoCon-leading 23.9 points per game. Mason sits first in the country in free throws made (119) and free throw attempts (149) and is second in total points scored this season (407).

Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop) are both averaging 9.4 points per game this season. Harris is averaging 36.5 percent from the floor in 13 starts this season while Scaife is shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and grabbing 6.9 rebounds per game. Leading the Spartans on the glass is junior India Timpton (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) who is averaging 7.3 boards per game while adding 7.5 points per game. Timpton and Scaife have combined for six double-doubles this season.

The Bucs are led by Tiana Tater and Shaumauria Bridges who avererage 17.7 and 17.0 points per game, respectively. As a team, ETSU is averaging 58.9 points per game and shooting 36.4 percent from the field. The duo of Shamorari Kendrick and Sadasia Tipps combine for 12.8 rebounds per game. The Bucs lead the SoCon in rebounding offense with 40.7 boards per game and typically out-rebound their oppnents by 2.5 rebounds per game.

The all-time series is tied 12-12 with ETSU winning the past six meetings. The Spartans are 3-6 all in games played at ETSU and are looking for their first win in Johnson City, Tenn., since February 18, 2003 when they defeated the Bucs 73-62. Last season, ETSU won both games of the regular season and outscored UNCG 171-131.
