Women's Basketball Backs Pat and Hosts Wofford Wednesday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team (8-11) returns home after a two-game road trip to Tennessee this past weekend where the Spartans went 0-2 in Southern Conference play losing at ETSU (11-8, 3-1 SoCon) and Chattanooga (13-5, 4-0 SoCon). The Spartans will face Wofford (6-11, 0-3 SoCon) at 7 p.m. inside Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG is currently one place behind the Terriers in the Southern Conference standings.

The Spartans are looking for their first SoCon win of the season as they stand at 0-4 in league play. Prior to tip-off there will be a brief pregame recognition for senior Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) for her accomplishment of becoming the program's all-time leading scorer earlier this season. There will be “Lucy Mason #12” signs distributed to fans to support Mason during the pre-game ceremony.

Fans can watch live on the SoCon Digital Network where UNCG's Parker Southern will be on the call. Live stats will also be provided at UNCGSpartans.com.

There will be a Campus Activities Board (CAB) tailgate on the third floor concourse of Fleming Gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m. FREE t-shirt's will be handed out to the first 150 fans in attendance.

UNCG's women's basketball team will also be recognizing the Pat Summitt Foundation and has tabbed Wednesday night as its “We Back Pat” game in support of long-time Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt and her fight to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease. There will be a marketing table with more information on the Pat Summitt Foundation and how to donate. Additionally, the foundation's website (www.patsummitt.org) accepts online donations at any time.

The Spartans are 32-9 all time against Wofford and 17-2 in home games against the Terriers. The Spartans lost their first home game to Wofford during the 2009-10 season. In the last five meetings UNCG has gone 3-2 against Wofford and the Spartans have won four of the last five games between the two in Fleming. Twice have the two SoCon foes gone into overtime on Lynne Agee Court; UNCG emerged victorious in both games.

UNCG leads the league in scoring offense with 67.6 points per game. Mason's conference-leading 24.0 points per game also ranks fifth in the nation. She also leads the SoCon in free throw percentage (.805) and minutes per game (38.5), The Spartans also lead the league in steals per game (9.7) and offensive rebounds per game (15.2).

In league play, the Spartans are holding opponents to 29.4 percent from three-point range. Junior Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) has a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game in conference games while Mason is averaging 92.9 percent from the charity stripe in the Spartans four league games.

Wofford hit the road for the first time this conference season. They are looking for their first road SoCon win since February 21, 2015, when the Terriers defeated Western Carolina, 63-55, in Cullowhee. The Terriers are led by Kentra Washington who is averaging 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. Wofford is coming off a 83-48 non-conference win over Montreat this past Monday night.

Last year the two teams split the regular season series with each team winning at home. Wofford defeated UNCG 77-64 in Spartanburg, S.C., January 31 and the Spartans won 65-59 inside Fleming February 23, 15.
