GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team (8-12, 0-5 SoCon) will face Furman, (10-9, 3-1 SoCon), at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 24. In a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., the Spartans are eager to get on the hardwood as UNCG looks for its first SoCon win of the season. There will be no broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network for Sunday's game but live stats will be available at UNCGSpartans.com. Admission to Sunday's SoCon match will be FREE.
Both teams are coming off of overtime games. The Spartans lost to Wofford 56-58 while Furman edged Western Carolina, 83-76.
UNCG leads the league in scoring offense with 67.0 points per game. Senior Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) paces the Spartans with a league-leading 23.5 points per game, while Furman's leading scorer is Whitney Bunn, who is fourth in the SoCon with 14.4 ppg.
The Paladins leading rebounder Cerra Carter ranks third in the SoCon with 7.7 boards per game. UNCG's leading rebounder, India Timpton (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) ranks sixth with 7.3 boards per game while Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./ Archbishop Spalding) is seventh with 7.1.
Furman leads the SoCon in 3-point field goal percentage averaging 35.6 percent per game. UNCG ranks last in the category averaging 25.3 from downtown. UNCG's 10.5 steals per game while Furman is last with 5.9 steals per game.
The Spartans lead the all-time series 22-20 but have lost the last four meetings between the two. Last time the two met, Furman defeated UNCG 77-68 in Greenville, S.C. The Paladins have won the season series in both of the last two years.
