GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNCG women's basketball team (8-16, 0-9 SoCon) is set to host Chattanooga (16-7, 7-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 11, on ESPN 3 with Kevin Burke and Blair Lansden on the call. The Spartans are in search of their first home victory against the Mocs since January 16, 1999.
UNCG will wear pink Play 4 Kay shirts in support of the Kay Yow Foundation. Yow is a 1970 graduate of UNCG where she earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education and went on to be a pioneer in women's basketball. The women's basketball team has a donation page set up and encourages fans to donate to the Kay Yow Foundation at Play4Kay.org/UNCGSpartans.
The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a Play4Kay t-shirt at the door. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to Thursday's game. Pink pom-poms will also be given away. At halftime there will be a contest for students and the winner receives a UNCG Cornhole Board set.
The Spartans are looking to bounce back from a tough two-game road trip where they fell to SoCon co-leaders Samford and Mercer. Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) is leading the league in points per game (22.4) while Chattanooga's Jasmine Joyner is the SoCon leader in rebounds (9.2) and blocked shots (4.2). The Mocs lead the nation in blocks per game (6.7) while Joyner is also the nation's leader.
Keli Foster (Hampton, Va./Bethel) is coming off back-to-back games with 10-or-more points for the first time in her career. The sophomore guard earned a starting roll when SoCon play began and has made an impact, as she is the second-leading scorer over the last three games.
UNCG is 6-38 all-time against Chattanooga and 2-16 at home. The Spartans last home win against the Mocs was January 16, 1999, when UNCG defeated UTC 87-74. UNCG's most recent win was January 2, 2007 at McKenzie Arena when the Spartans defeated the Mocs 71-68.
