GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNCG women's basketball team is set to host ETSU (15-10, 7-2 SoCon) at 2 p.m. inside Fleming Gymnasium. The Spartans are 8-17 overall and 0-10 in the Southern Conference this season and are coming off a 74-53 home loss to Chattanooga last Thursday night.
Girls under the age of 12 get in free as part of UNCG's National Girls and Women in Sports Day recognition. It is Girl Scouts of America Day and there will be a student contests throughout the game with the chance to win great prizes such as a FitBit, a GoPro and an iPad. For fans not in attendance, the game will be streamed live on ESPN 3 and through the Watch ESPN App. Matt Krause and Blair Lansden will be on the call.
UNCG is paced by senior guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) who is leading the SoCon with 22.3 points per game this season. She ranks in the top-10 in the nation in points per game and is statistically ranked top-25 in six other statistical categories. Thursday she was named CoSIDA Academic All-District. Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) is coming for a 12-point nine-rebound performance Thursday night. She finished the game as UNCG's second-leading scorer and was one board shy of her seventh double-double of the season.
ETSU's Shamauria Bridges has hit 64 three-pointers this season to now rank 7th all-time on the Bucs single-season three-pointer's list. She is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. Tianna Tarter is leading the Bucs with 17.6 points per game this season, ranking third in the SoCon. Tarter is averaging 43.2 percent from the field.
Saturday marks the 26th meeting between the two programs. ETSU leads the all-time series 12-13 most recently defeating UNCG 89-73 inside Brooks Gym January 14, 2016. In that game, Tarter scored a career-high 33 points. The Spartans are 5-5 at home against the Bucs and are looking for their first victory over ETSU inside Fleming Gymnasium since January 11, 2004 when UNCG won 71-60.
The Spartans look for their first SoCon win since February 23, 2015 when UNCG defeated Wofford at home, 65-69. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. and live stats will be available at UNCGSpartans.com
