Women's Basketball Hits the Road for the Final Road Trip of the Regular Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team (8-18, 0-11 SoCon) hits the road for its final road trip of the season Thursday. The Spartans face off at Furman in Greenville, S.C., at 7 p.m. before heading to Spartanburg for a afternoon matinee Saturday against Wofford.

UNCG is looking for its first win against the Paladins since the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament when UNCG defeated Furman 73-68 March 8, 2013. The Spartans have lost the last five games to Furman including the first meeting of the season January 23, 76-59, in Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG is 8-11 on the road against Furman as the Paladins lead the all-time series 22-21. The Spartans' last road win against Furman was February 21, 2009 when UNCG defeated the Paladins 61-54 in Timmons Arena.

Last time the two teams met, Whitney Bunn scored 25 points and added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals en route to being named the SoCon Player of the Week. Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) led the Spartans with 21 points and six rebounds while Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) added 14 points.

Mason is leading the SoCon and ranks seventh in the nation with 22.7 points per game this season. Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) ranks fifth in the league in rebounds per game (7.4) while Mariah Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta) is second in blocks per game (1.5). Mason also ranks second in the SoCon in free throw percentage (.805) and third in steals per game (2.2).

Furman's Bunn ranks fourth in the league in points per game (14.5) while Holli Wilkins is the SoCon leader in three-point field goal percentage (.439). The duo is first and second on the team in scoring while Cierra Carter is adding 10.7 points per game this season. Furman is holding opponents to 62.6 points per game this season and 29.2 percent from downtown in league play.

UNCG leads the league in scoring average (65.3) but in league play is averaging 61.5 points per game and shooting 34.5 percent from field goal range.
