Macon, Ga.- The UNCG women's basketball team (8-15, 0-8 SoCon) travels to Mercer (17-6, 7-1 SoCon) who leads the Southern Conference Saturday for a 2 p.m. game on ESPN3. The Spartans are looking for their first win in program history over the Bears as Mercer holds the all-time series 4-0. This marks just the second trip to Hawkins Arena for the Spartans since Mercer joined the SoCon last season.
UNCG is coming off an 80-49 loss at Samford Thursday night. The Spartans are looking for a reprisal following an 86-78 overtime loss at home to the Bears earlier this season in their first loss of the SoCon season. Sophomore guard Keli Foster (Hampton, Va./Bethel) is coming off a career night in which she scored game-high 19 points. Senior Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) added 11 points for the Spartans in the loss to Samford but continues to lead the SoCon with 22.7 points per game.
Mercer's Kahlia Lawrence is ranked second in the league behind Mason with 18.2 points per game. During Southern Conference play she is averaging 22.0 ppg through eight games. Sydni Means is leading the SoCon with 5.5 assists per game and has a 2.63 assists/turnover ratio, good for 11th in the nation.
Last time the two met, four Spartans scored in double figures with Mason scoring a team-high 26 points. Both India Timpton (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had double-doubles. Mercer's Lawrence scored a game-high 36 points to lead all scorers while KeKe Calloway was the only other Bear in double figures with 17 points.
