GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team (22-11) will travel to North Carolina (16-17) for the 55th meeting between the two in program history. The Spartans are coming off an 8-0 win over Drexel last Friday night. UNCG had a bye during the opening week of Southern Conference play but remain as the team with the best record after being the first team to 20 wins this season.
The game will be streamed live on GoHeelsTV, which is free if you are using a computer. Phones and tablets require you to purchase an app and have a subscription. Live stats will also be available at UNCGSpartans.com.
UNCG is looking to continue upon its success of winning nine of its last 10 games. The Spartans have hit at least one home run in eight of their last nine games and are 8-1 during that stretch.
UNCG is 8-46 all-time against the Tar Heels. Last time the two teams met during the regular season UNC walked away with a 15-0 victory in five innings March 17, 2015, in Chapel Hill. The Spartans have not won a game against North Carolina since April 13, 2011, when they defeated UNC 5-2 on the road. The last home victory against the Tar Heels was April 30, 2002 when UNCG defeated North Carolina 1-0. The two were originally scheduled to meet for the first game of a home-and-home series back February 24, but inclement weather postponed the game, which as of now will not be rescheduled.
Head Coach Janelle Breneman holds a 113-80 record at UNCG. She spent six seasons as an assistant at North Carolina in the mid-2000s under head coach Donna J. Papa. During her time at UNC she helped the Tar Heels to post five 40-plus-win seasons and advance to the NCAA Tournament every year and in 2008, UNC finished in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
