Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-0, by way of Wake Forest (4-0) at the UNCG Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon. Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) surrendered her first goals of the season as the Spartans move to 2-1-1 overall.
Wake Forest outshot the Spartans 10-3 in the first half but four saves by Buehler would help keep the scoreboard even throughout the first 45 minutes of play.
The Demon Deacons scored their first of three goals in the 54th minute when Sarah Medina found a long pass from Reci Smith just outside the six-yard line for a 1-0 Wake Forest lead. The Spartans worked to recover but less than three minutes later a scramble in front of the goal resulted in a Bayley Feist goal, her third of the season.
Sarah Teegarden scored on a free kick in the 87th minute making it a 3-0 match.
Beuhler made eight saves, four in each half, in the loss while Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), Cienna Rideout (Henderson, Nev./Coronado), Caylin Prillaman (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) and Kimberly Shaver (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) accounted for each of the Spartans four shots.
Overall Wake Forest outshot UNCG 18-4 and held a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
UNCG hits the road for the Army West Point Fall Classic where they will face Army, September 2, at 5 p.m. and Hofstra at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, September 4. The Spartans return home September 8, to host Liberty at 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
