Women's Basketball Set to Duel with Eastern Kentucky Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's basketball heads to Richmond, Ky. for a nonconference matchup with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Saturday evening at 6. UNCG enters at 3-0, while EKU sports a 1-1 record. The Spartans are coming off of a 60-54 victory over at Coastal Carolina Tuesday, which saw four players score in double figures.

Saturday's game will have live stats and a video stream via the Ohio Valley Conference Digital Network. Links for the live stats and the video stream are located on the UNCG women's basketball schedule page.

UNCG leads the all-time series with the Colonels, 1-0 defeating EKU 81-66 in Fleming Gymnasium last season. The game was UNCG's last of 2016 before heading into Southern Conference play.

Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) is one of three Spartans who average double figures on the young season. Soliman leads the team with 13.7 points per game with Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) and Alexus Willey (Waldorf, Md./Riverdale Baptist) adding 10.7 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. Three Spartans average nine points per game and junior Brandi Fier (South Beloit, Ill./Illinois Central) is coming off of a season-high 18-point, nine-assist effort Tuesday night. Fier leads the team with 13 assists on the season.

Ajemba leads the Spartans on the glass, recording an average of 13.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore captain Te'ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central) adds 9.3 rebounds per game. UNCG averages 46.7 rebounds per game, leading the league with a +12.3 rebounding margin.

Eastern Kentucky enters the game with a 1-1 record, having split its games at Bowling Green and Western Carolina. This will be the home opener for the Colonels, who earned an 8-5 record in Alumni Coliseum during the 2016-17 season.

Abby Wright and A'Queen Hayes lead the Colonel offense. Wright averages 14.5 points per game, having scored a season-high 18 points in the win over Western Carolina Wednesday night. Wright has started both games this season, playing an average of 30.5 minutes per contest. Hayes has played a team-high 37.5 minutes per game, scoring 13.5 points per game.

Hayes and Shay Solomon have partnered to bring in 7.0 rebounds per game apiece. Solomon has started both games this season and has scored 17 points.
