Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Led by a 25-point night from junior guard Isaiah Miller, UNCG men's basketball (7-2, 1-0) clinches its fourth straight win in a 72-54 final against visiting Kennesaw State (0-7, 0-0).
With some early fouls hindering the Spartans in the first half, Head Coach Wes Miller was forced to go to his bench early on Wednesday night, with 11 players getting minutes in the opening 20. Isaiah Miller started his night with a 6-for-7 performance in the opening half, while contributing a pair of steals and an assist in the early stages. With the lead changing hands seven times in the first period, the Spartans held off the Owls and eventually stretched their lead to 34-28 before the halftime break.
"...We want to be a 'grind it out' defensive team," said Coach Miller in postgame. "I didn't think that we were great all night. Give [KSU Head Coach] Amir [Abdur-Rahim] and his group credit. He's a first-year head coach, he's got a really young team and they've gone through a tough stretch to start the year. I think he's doing a phenomenal job, I was really impressed...I think that they had a lot to do with us not being as in good of a rhythm [to start], but I thought my team found a way in the second half. I thought our energy was so much better, and then we got some stops, got some deflections, and that kind of opened the game up for us..."
The Spartans' ability to turn defense into offense showed through in the second half, forcing an additional 11 KSU turnovers, in addition to making five blocks. Miller added another 13 points to his total on the night, while James Dickey pulled down five of his eight rebounds and recorded three of his four rejections on the evening in the second half alone. UNCG held Kennesaw to just 6-for-20 shooting in the last 20 minutes, while scoring 12 points off of Owl turnovers.
The Spartans move to 7-2 on the year with their 72-54 decision over KSU and increase their current winning stretch to four straight games.
Three Things To Know
