GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Soccer Hall of Fame held its 23rd Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this January, introducing 13 players and coaches with roots in UNCG men's and women's soccer. Ten former Spartan student-athletes were included in this year's class of honorees, along with former UNCG women's soccer Head Coach Eddie Radwanski, and former men's coaches Michael Parker, Eric Vaughter and Rusty Scarborough.
A former Spartan student-athlete, and 10-year head coach for the UNCG women's program, Eddie Radwanski was inducted both as an individual and as a member of the 1993 and 1994 Greensboro Dynamo roster. Under Radwanski, the Spartan women collected a total of 11 SoCon Championships from 2001-2010, including four tournament titles and seven regular season titles.
He joins 31 former Greensboro Dynamo teammates in this year's National Champions Hall of Honor Class, nine of which played at the collegiate level with UNCG. Carl Fleming, Mark Fulk, Michael Gailey, Steve Harrison, Jason Haupt, Brian Japp, Michael Thorn, Radwanski and David Ulmsten were all honored for helping bring the Dynamo to back-to-back USISL Championship titles in 1993 and 1994, tallying a total of 32 wins and just four losses over those two years combined.
The Dynamo were coached by former Spartan head Michael Parker, the longest tenured coach in UNCG men's soccer history. Parker collected 382 wins over 26 years at the Spartan helm, while leading his program to three straight DIII National Championship titles from 1985-87. Parker led the Spartans into Division I in 1991, with UNCG claiming eight conference championships and a dozen NCAA tournament appearances over the next 19 seasons under the skipper.
The Greensboro Dynamo was started in 1993 by English businessman, and former shareholder of Nottingham Forest, Neil Macpherson, immediately joining the Atlantic Division of the U.S. Interregional Soccer League (USISL). While the name has changed, USL League Two club North Carolina Fusion derived from the original Dynamo club, and has continued to harbor and develop UNCG alums, including 2019 SoCon Player of the Year
Casey Penland (2016-19). Until 2002 the Dynamo played at UNCG Soccer Stadium, and now compete at Macpherson Stadium in Browns Summit.
The UNCG men's soccer program was already inducted into the Hall of Honor class of 2017, commemorating the program's 19 NCAA Tournament appearances at the Division III, Division II and Division I levels. The Spartans won five Division III National Championships between 1982 and 1987, with the finals of that annual tournament still taking place at UNCG Soccer Stadium to this day.
