UNCG Meets Samford Tomorrow in Fleming

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Spartans women's basketball is off to one of their best starts in program history. Going in to tomorrow afternoon's matchup with the Samford Bulldogs (10-11, 5-1), UNCG (16-5, 5-1) has won a program best (DI) 11 straight contests on their home court which is good for 17th-best in the nation among active home winning streaks. 

LAST TIME OUT
Conference-play means quick turnarounds at this point in the season. The Spartans took care of business against Mercer on Thursday night in Greensboro. Their 67-51 win against the Bears was their first in series history, dating back to the 1978-79 season. Te'ja Twitty cemented herself as a premier gamechanger, netting a team-high 15 points for UNCG. Nadine Soliman recorded another double-double (12pts, 12rebs) and got within six points of a new program career scoring record. Alexis Pitchford (10pts) and Cece Crudup (5pts) came off-the-bench and provided great defensive pressure, holding Mercer's top scorer to zero points in the second half. 

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- Through 21 games, UNCG sits 43rd in the country in scoring margin (12.2); Their scoring defense (54.4ppg) still remains among the nations best, ranked 14th
-- During the month of January, Twitty averaged a team-high 12.4 points, notching double-digit points in eight games played; Teammate Aja Boyd (11.1ppg) has secured back-to-back double-digit scoring games
-- In conference-play, the G leads leads in steals (7.0), FG pct defense (35.0), free-throw pct (79.5) and scoring defense (52.0ppg)

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS 
-- Atop the SoCon standings along with UNCG, Samford has been among the best all-around teams in the conference this season. Winners of four straight, in conference action, the Bulldogs lead in FG pct (42.4) 3PT FG pct (36.3) and 3PT FG pct defense (25.7). Their 67.5 points per game currently ranks second. 
-- Led by junior center Natalie Armstrong (14.5ppg) and senior guard Sarah Myers (13.6ppg) 

SERIES HISTORY
Samford holds the series lead, 16-7. The first meeting between the teams came during the 2008-09 season. The Bulldogs took two of three matchups, including win during the conference tournament. Last season, the home teams prevailed, as the Spartans earned a 55-54 win in Greensboro followed by a 53-57 loss in Birmingham. Ala. In the win, it was Boyd who was counted on in the final seconds and connected on a layup with two ticks remaining to seal the victory. Soliman tied it up at 53 with 16 seconds left. In Birmingham, another close battle took place. This time, it was Ta'Naisha Hill of Samford who drilled a pair of threes down the stretch to elevate her team to a home win.
