WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - UNCG track completes its first day of competition at the Camel City Invitational this Friday, opening its fifth meet at JDL Fast Track this indoor season.
The Spartans started in the 800m, where Joseph Thoma turned in a team-best adjusted time of 1:58.12 for the men, followed closely by teammate
Juan Rodriguez at 1:58.66#. Thoma's time would rank seventh in the SoCon barring marks recorded this weekend, while Rodriguez' would come in 11th.
Senior
Taylor Delaney turned in a Spartan-best in the women's mile, crossing the finish line with an adjusted 5:04.58. Her time is the best that any UNCG runner has recorded during the current indoor season, placing the Hope Mills-native in the top-20 of the Camel City field, and ahead of student-athletes from Charlotte, East Carolina and No. 10 Florida.
The Spartans' final two races of the afternoon came over in the 3000m, where sophomore
Thomas Knepshield improved on his personal best with an adjusted time of 8:45.20.

UNCG gets back to work on Saturday, completing their weekend of competition at the Camel City Invitational at JDL Fast Track. The Spartans' day opens in the 1000m at 10:30 a.m., and ends in the men's DMR at 1:25 p.m.
*The Camel City Invitational is succeeded by the Camel City Elite on Saturday, where spectators can witness competition between some of the top middle and distance athletes in the world. UNCG alum, and 2016 Olympic silver medalist, Paul Chelimo will be racing in the 3000m, billed for a 2:05 p.m. start time on Feb. 8th.
