GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men's golf has announced its 2020-21 schedule, which includes five tournaments across the southeast before ending in Greensboro, Ga. for the Southern Conference Championship.
The Spartans will open the season in February with the Invitational at Savannah Harbor (Feb. 20-21) and resume play again at the Ross Collegiate Classic (March 8-9).
March will begin a series of four straight weeks of competition for the Spartans including the General Hackler Championship (March 14-16), Tarheel Intercollegiate (March 27-29), and wrapping up regular season play at the Irish Creek Collegiate (April 2-3).
UNCG's final competition of the spring is the Southern Conference Championship (April 19-20). The Spartans brought home the SoCon title in back-to-back seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Although senior
Nick Lyerly will redshirt this season before returning to receive his Master's in Biology, head coach
Terrance Stewart is determined to win gold.
"Our goal is to win every single tournament that we play in," said Stewart. "Doesn't matter who it is. We are going to compete and expect to win."
Entering the season with a pool of nine players, Stewart's team is on the younger side of competition including three sophomores:
Symon Balbin,
Noah Connor, and
Jack Marcotte, and three freshmen:
Randall Hudson,
Tommy Lamb, and
Parker Truesdale.
Although the group is talented, Stewart will be looking to his two reliable and competing seniors,
Zack Swanson and
Justin Emmons, to lead the way. Swanson, a GCAA All-Academic team member, grabbed a career best -16 shooting a 68-64-68 over three rounds in the 2019-20 Martin Downs Collegiate.
UNCG will be seeking a third-straight Southern Conference Championship at the 2021 league tournament taking place April 19-20 at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
The 2020-21 NCAA Championship will take place May 28 through June 2 in Scottsdale, Az.
