Southern Conference Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer sophomore midfielder
Caroline Woods was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Tuesday.
This honor is Woods' first in her career. She has scored a goal in each of the Spartans' last three games.
Woods, a sophomore, netted a goal in each of UNCG's two games and finished with five points on the week as the Spartans played to a 1-1 draw against Mercer on Friday and earned a 5-0 victory over The Citadel on Sunday. In Friday's contest against the Bears, Woods netted UNCG's lone goal of the game in the 62nd minute.
Gracie Timbario sent the ball to Woods, positioned just inside the 18-yard box, and Woods sent the ball into the upper left corner of the net.
Against the Bulldogs two days later, Woods assisted on the first Spartan goal and netted the last. In the 35th minute of play, she collected a pass from
Dalani Stephens and sent a cross to
Nicole Souply, who scored from six yards out. After the Spartans tacked on three more goals, Woods added one of her own in the 81st minute. A pass from
Caroline Fiorella to
Gabi Santora put Santora in position to send the ball Woods' way. The native of Kernersville, North Carolina, launched the ball from outside the 18-yard arc over the goalkeeper's outstretched hands, scoring her third goal in as many games and extending UNCG's lead to 5-0 en route to the win.
From Woods
"It's such an honor to earn Offensive Player of the Week, but I couldn't have done it without my teammates. Shoutout to them for pushing me to be better on and off the field every day!"
