GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team wraps up its final regular season business trip taking on reigning Southern Conference (SoCon) champions Furman University on Sunday, October 17 at Stone Stadium.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Sophomore Caroline Woods currently leads the team with nine points, scoring four goals and one assist.
- Woods was most recently named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for recording five points (2 G, 1 A) in two games. She has now scored in four-straight games.
- Senior Nicole Souply is second on the team with seven points tallying three goals and one assist, while classmate Ashley Avelino has chipped in two goals this season.
- Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again three weeks ago for two more clean sheets.
- Among the SoCon, Tyler-Cooper is tied for the lead in shutouts (6), is second in saves per game (6.46), third in save percentage (.866) and in saves (84), and sixth in goals against average (0.95).
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
- Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets.
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
- UNCG fell to SoCon opponent Wofford College, 2-1, Friday night at Snyder Field.
- Sophomore Caroline Woods scored in her fourth-straight game.
- Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper recorded three saves, bringing her career total to 339, remaining second in the UNCG record books.
- The Spartans outshot the Terriers, 24-9, and recorded 11 corners to Wofford's three.
SCOUTING FURMAN
- Kyndal Anderson leads the Paladins with seven goals and one assist for 15 points.
- Nieva Gaither and Isabella Gutierrez each have double digit points with 13 and 11, respectively. Gaither has scored four goals with five assists and Gutierrez has tallied three goals and five assists.
- Three others have three goals each.
- Addison Corn has started and played in 12 goals for Furman, giving up 11 goals for 1.34 goals against average. Corn has recorded 30 saves.
- Furman was projected to win the Southern Conference in the Preseason Coaches' Poll after taking the title in the Spring.
- Four Paladins received Preseason All-SoCon recognition including Jasmine Greene, Gutierrez, Gaither, and Faith Hauberg.
PALADINS' LAST TIME OUT
- Nieva Gaither scored a career-high two goals while Kyndal Anderson netted the game-winner to lead the Furman women's soccer team from two goals down to win, 3-2, in Southern Conference action over the VMI Keydets, Friday evening at Stone Stadium.
- The Paladins took a season-high 35 shots in the contest and held a 20-4 advantage in attempts on goal. Furman also led 12-1 in corner kicks.
PINK GAME
On Friday, October 1, the Spartans hosted VMI and sported bright pink socks and recognized and remembered those who have passed, are currently battling, and who are in remission from cancer.
