GREENSBORO, N.C. – With two Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season games remaining, UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer first hosts East Tennessee State University on Friday, October 22 at UNCG Soccer Stadium with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Sophomore Caroline Woods currently leads the team with nine points, scoring four goals and one assist.
- Woods was most recently named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for recording five points (2 G, 1 A) in two games.
- Senior Nicole Souply is second on the team with seven points tallying three goals and one assist, while classmate Ashley Avelino has chipped in two goals this season.
- Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again three weeks ago for two more clean sheets.
- Among the SoCon, Tyler-Cooper is second in saves per game (6.29), save percentage (.854), and shutouts (6), third in saves (88), and sixth in goals against average (1.02).
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
- Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets.
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
- UNCG suffered a 2-0 loss to Furman University Sunday afternoon at Stone Stadium in SoCon play.
- Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper recorded four saves, bringing her career total to 343.
- The Spartans outshot the Paladins, 16-15. Furman was called for 10 fouls to UNCG's nine.
SCOUTING ETSU
- Kyra Ranvek leads the team with two goals and four points.
- Momoko Horiuchi and Lindsey Cook each have scored one goal and one assist this season.
- Four other Bucs have contributed one goal each.
- In net, Shu Ohba has played in every minute allowing 11 goals for a 0.80 goals against average, recording 62 saves with six shutouts.
- ETSU was voted to finish ninth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
BUCCANEERS' LAST TIME OUT
- Facing a Samford team, who has already locked up the Southern Conference regular season title, ETSU women's soccer suffered a 2-0 setback to the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon from Summers-Taylor Stadium.
- Samford outshot ETSU 10-6, while the Bulldogs also tallied nine corner kicks to the Bucs' three.
PINK GAME
On Friday, October 1, the Spartans hosted VMI and sported bright pink socks and recognized and remembered those who have passed, are currently battling, and who are in remission from cancer.
