GREENSBORO, N.C. – The six-seeded UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer rematches the third-seeded Western Carolina University, just five days after playing each other in a regular season finale, in Southern Conference (SoCon) quarterfinal matchup.

The Spartans and Catamounts will face off on neutral territory on Friday, October 29 at Stone Stadium on the campus of Furman University with a kick off at 8:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • Sophomore Caroline Woods currently leads the team with nine points, scoring four goals and one assist.
  • Woods was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for recording five points (2 G, 1 A) in two games mid-October.
  • Senior Nicole Souply is second on the team with seven points tallying three goals and one assist, while junior Maddy Gilhool has scored two goals and added two assists.
  • Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has been in net for the Spartans in all but 135 minutes of play. She was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again mid-September weeks ago for two more clean sheets.
  • Among the SoCon, Tyler-Cooper is tied for first in shutouts (7), is second in saves per game (6.19), third save percentage (.853) and saves (99), and sixth in goals against average (1.02).
  • UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
  • Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets.
SPARTANS VS. CATAMONTS REWIND
  • UNCG secured a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon, just five days ago, at UNCG Soccer Stadium against Western Carolina University in its regular season finale.
  • Spartan freshman Mel Herrera scored her first-career goal to give UNCG the win, while sophomore Parker Sikora tallied her first assist of the season.
  • Tyler-Cooper stopped five shots and earned her 25th shutout of her career, tying for second in the UNCG record books with Jennifer Stillman '06.
  • UNCG outshot Western Carolina 11-8, while the Spartans recorded six corner kicks and the Catamounts had two.
