WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - UNCG track faced its final challenge of the regular indoor season this Saturday, as the Spartans prepped for next week's SoCon Indoor Championship meet at this Saturday's Camel City Invitational. Men's runners
Dylan Christopher and
Thomas Knepshield both put in personal bests in the mile, while multiple Spartans place themselves in a position to challenge for points this next weekend.
The men's day didn't start until the afternoon, when six UNCG runners took part in the 800m. Junior
Joe Thoma set the pace for his side, with his adjusted time of 1:55.82 putting him in sixth amongst the collegiate field, and placing him ninth in the conference for the current indoor season.
Weston Clayton was not far behind, putting in a performance of 1:57.11#, taking 10th in the field of attached runners.
After making her collegiate debut in indoors last week, freshman
Shay Soukup further improved on her pace in the mile, running to an adjusted finish of 5:08.46. Only three freshmen in the conference have put in better mile times this season.
The Spartans' final event of the evening took place in the men's mile where
Dylan Christopher and
Thomas Knepshield set a pair of career bests, crossing the finish line in an adjusted 4:16.75 and 4:19.06 respectively. The pair have turned in some of the conference's top performances in distance this winter. Only Furman has runners ranking ahead of Knepshield and Christopher in the 5000m, going into this weekend's SoCon Championship.
