EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG track turned in some top 1500m times at North Carolina A&T this Saturday, putting a wrap on this year's Aggie Invitational, and the Spartans' penultimate meet of the 2021 regular season.
Action got started shortly before noon on Saturday as three Spartans finished in the top-10 of the women's 1500m. UNCG was led by senior
Ariana Garcia who turned in a 4:41.96, the fifth-best time in the field at Irwin Belk Track. Garcia was not the only UNCG runner to set a new personal best in the event, with freshman
Shay Soukup crossing the finish line in 4:48.37. Fellow first-year Spartan
Jenna Reiter made her outdoor debut on Saturday as well, finishing the 1500m in 4:52.40.
The Spartan men performed well in their own right, posting three top-10 finishes of their own in the 1500m.
Colin Alexander led the pack with his 3:58.43 career best, while his teammate
Nicholas Thoma was not far behind at 4:00.35. Alexander's time is a Spartan best for 2021, while Thoma's pace set a new PR for the junior.
Ewan Hynes had a career best for himself as well, crossing the finish line in 4:02.04.
UNCG competed in the men's 800m to close out the meet, with
Juan Rodriguez running a team best 1:57.85.
The Spartans compete in their final regular season test of the spring next week, running at the Catamount Classic April 16-17th. The meet will give UNCG a preview of what they can expect in the postseason, with this year's SoCon Outdoor Track Championship also taking place at WCU at the start of May.
