GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team is rolling into the 2021 NCAA Division I tournament with plenty of momentum. Now, the Spartan surge has been noticed nationally by Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
UNCG is ranked 23rd in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 national poll and 28th nationally in this week's College Soccer News final regular season top 30 poll.
The Spartans won the Southern Conference championship this past Saturday by defeating Belmont, 1-0. Sophomore forward
Mani Austmann scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute for UNCG, which ended the season with a six-match unbeaten streak. The Spartans have outscored teams 11-3 during that stretch.
In addition, UNCG produced four clean sheets during its closing stretch. The Spartans allowed one goal over their final four matches. UNCG is the only SoCon program ranked among the nation's elite.
For the season, freshman midfielder
Theo Collomb leads UNCG with seven goals, which is also the best in the SoCon. Austmann, who was named the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player, has six goals, and
Fernando Garcia has five goals.
Also earning All-SoCon Tournament honors for the Spartans were
Nelson Oceano,
Angel Bacho, and
Niclas Wild.
