GREENSBORO, N.C. -- UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball coach
Mike Jones has announced the additions of Dante Treacy and Jalen White to the Spartans.
They are two of the six newcomers that will be part of UNCG's roster during the 2021-22 season. All six newcomers will be released this week.
Dante Treacy, Orlando, Fla.
A 6-0 guard, Treacy comes to UNCG from Robert Morris. He will major in economics. He was named the 2020 Northeast Conference Tournament MVP and earned a spot on the All-Northeast Conference Tournament Team. He was second in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in assists per game (4.50), third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.25), and eighth in steals (1.29 per game). He scored in double figures 14 times.
Treacy enjoyed a decorated career at Central Florida Christian Academy where he departed as its all-time leading scorer (1,808 points). He led CFCA to state finals for the first time in 2017-18 while averaging 15.1 points, 8.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.1 steals. He was named the 2018 Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 2A Player of the Year. Treacy was named to the All-Orlando Sentinel Team (2016, 2017, 2018) and he is a three-time FABC All-State First Team (2016, 2017, 2018) selection as well as a four-time All-District honoree and was a three-time district MVP.
Coach Jones says: "I've always admired Dante's game from afar, dating back to his high school days, and now I'm really happy that I get to coach him. He's first and foremost a competitor. He wants to win every time he steps on the court. He is an experienced playmaker and good scorer, as well as a hard-working, quick defender. His ability to lead and run our team will pay big dividends."
Jalen White, St. Petersburg, Fla.
A 6-5 forward, White is planning to major in history. He joins the Spartans after playing two years at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He led the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, including 12.4 points in conference during the 2020-21 year. He ranked ninth in the Southland Conference in defensive rebounds with 4.7 per outing. White scored in double-figures 11 times. He also produced four 20-plus scoring outings and recorded a pair of double-doubles while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor. He played in all 24 games and made 23 starts.
White was the Source Hoops Florida 6A Player of the Year at Lakewood High School for coach Anthony "Square" Lawrence. He was a first team All-State and first team All-Pinellas County performer, averaging 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. White played AAU with the Florida Sons and coach Loren Jackson.
In addition, White was captain of the debate team and on the National Cohort for High Achiever Students of Color. He also participated in Habitat for the Humanity, Youth of the Year, Pathfinders and served as an advisor to the Pinellas County Commissioners. White was a member of the St. Petersburg Police Chief Advisory Board and was a Pinellas County McKnight Achiever.
Coach Jones says: "Jalen comes to us after two productive years in his collegiate career. His physicality jumps off the page, and should help us defensively and rebounding, right away. He is uniquely skilled at the forward position because he is a good shooter, driver, and passer. He will really help our offense with his versatility. His ability to learn quickly will help him get acclimated to a new system quickly, and we believe he will impact our team right away."
