McKay’s Career Night Leads Spartans Over Tigers

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Freshmen duo Ethan McKay and Kennedy Jones led the Spartans with a home run in UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's 8-3 win over the Towson Tigers on Friday evening.

The Tigers scored first with two runs in the top of the first. They held the lead until the fourth inning when Pres Cavenaugh scored on Hogan Windish's sacrifice fly. Zack Budzik tied the game off a single from Greg Hardison.

The Spartans went back-to-back innings with two-run homers. In the bottom of the fifth, Jones hit his second career home run over the left-center wall that gave UNCG the two-run lead. McKay followed in suit with his first collegiate homerun also over the left-center wall, 6-2.

Dallas Callahan worked the Towson pitcher with an 8-pitch at-bat until he was hit to be put on first. Callahan advanced to third on a ground out by Jones and Cavenaugh. A single from Budzik would score Callahan, 7-2. Budzik would score the Spartan's final run on a single from Windish.

Jared Mathewson started on the mound for the Spartans. He pitched 7.0 innings and allowed two runs. The LHP struck out five, walked one, and allowed seven hits. Caleb Freeman pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two. RHP Jake Wolf got the last out for the Spartans with three straight strikes.

McKAY ON FIRST COLLEGIATE HOME RUN
