Collegiate Baseball Announces Freshmen All-Americans

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman left fielder Kennedy Jones of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America Team, powered by Diamond Sports, announced on Wednesday.

Jones was one of three players from the Southern Conference (SoCon) to earn the recognition, including Andrew Ronne and Tommy Barth from ETSU.

Jones finished second on the team with a .367 batting average during his first year in the Blue & Gold. He had a team-best 92 hits out of 251 at-bats while driving in a team-best 73 RBI and scoring 62 runs. He doubled 16 times, was one of two Spartans to have four triples, and was second on the team with 11 home runs.

He had a .594 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage. He successfully stole five of six bases during the year and walked 20 times. In the field, Jones had six errors with 90 putouts.

During 29 games this season, Jones had multiple hits, with a season-high of four, three times. He first had four at Wofford on April 10 and then had four during back-to-back games against Mercer and Samford on May 28. He also had 20 multi-RBI games, with a season-high of five twice. The first was against the Bears on May 28 and the second was against Wofford on May 29.

He had his first-collegiate multi-home run game against the Terriers on May 29 during the SoCon Tournament.

The Norfolk, Virginia native was named to the SoCon Coaches and Media All-SoCon second teams, as well as the All-Freshman team. During the month of February, he was named the SoCon Player of the Month.

Jones impressed the SoCon as he was ranked first in hits and RBI, second in at bats, third in batting average and total bases, tied for third in triples, fourth in runs scored, and ninth in slugging percentage.

The Spartans concluded their season with a 34-30 overall mark and a 12-9 SoCon record, making it third-year head coach Billy Godwin's first year with 30 or more wins in the Blue & Gold. This was the first year since 2017 that the Spartans made the NCAA Tournament after taking the SoCon Tournament title behind seven games in four days.
