Women's Tennis to Close Fall Schedule at Wofford Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team will close out its fall season with the Wofford Invite in Spartanburg, S.C., from Friday, Nov. 10 to Sunday Nov. 12.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:
  • Friday: 11 a.m. start, one doubles and one singles.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. start, two doubles and one singles.
  • Sunday: 9 a.m. start, one singles.
  • The invite will feature compass draws of eight for both singles and doubles.
  • There will be eight singles draws and four doubles draws.
TEAMS COMPETING:
UNCG, Gardner Webb, Jacksonville State, Mercer, Presbyterian, Radford, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina, Wofford.

Last Time Out:
  • The Spartans last competed at the Liberty Invite from Friday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Nov. 5.
  • The squad went 4-2 in doubles and 6-3 in singles at the invite.
  • Olivia Gallagher led UNCG in singles wins last weekend by recording three wins.
  • The Spartans are 30-32 in singles and 18-17 in doubles on the fall season.
  • Gallagher leads the team this fall at 7-1 in singles and 6-3 in doubles.
Scouting the Opponents
  • Gardner-Webb – The Bulldogs have competed in three other fall tournaments this year at Western Carolina, UNCG and the ITA Carolina Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Spartans went 2-1 in doubles and 5-1 in singles against Gardner-Webb in the UNCG Duals at the UNCG Tennis Courts earlier this season.
  • Jacksonville State – Jax State had a strong showing last time out at the Golden Eagle Invitational. Irena Artigas and Ella Tuomela won each of their singles matches and were impressive in doubles play. The sophomore and junior each scored three one-on-one victories at Southern Miss to finish atop their draws.
  • Mercer – The Bears most recently competed at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Gainesville, Fla. Mercer went 0-3 in singles play and 0-1 in doubles play at the competition.
  • Presbyterian – Presbyterian began its fall season at the UNCG Duals and has since competed in two other tournaments. The Blue Hose went 3-1 in doubles play and 3-5 in singles against the Spartans at the UNCG Tennis Courts earlier this season. Most recently, the squad 2-5 in singles and 1-2 in doubles at the ITA Carolina Regionals.
  • Radford – Radford has competed in two other fall tournaments this season at the Thunder in the Mountain Hidden Dual and most recently, the ITA Regionals. The Highlanders will close outs its fall season at the Wofford Invite this weekend.
  • UNC Asheville – The Bulldogs most recently competed at the Elon Fall Invitational, having a strong showing in both singles and doubles matches.  
  • Western Carolina –The Spartans and Catamounts saw each other earlier this fall at the UNCG Invite. Western Carolina went 2-2 in doubles against the Spartans at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
  • Wofford – The Terriers have competed in three tournaments this fall with two of those three being at Coastal Carolina and the other at UNC Asheville. Most recently, at the CCU Battle at the Beach, the Terriers had eleven singles wins and six doubles victories during the weekend.

The Spartans will begin their spring schedule at UNC Asheville on Sunday, Jan.  21 at 1 p.m. at The Asheville Racquet Club Downtown in Ashevillle, N.C.
