PALM CITY, Fla. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf graduate student
Nick Lyerly led the Spartans with a one-under-par (71) scorecard as the Spartans stand in a tie for fourth place after the first round of the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate, hosted by UNCG, at the 7,169-yard Hammond Creek Golf Club.
Lyerly posted birdies on two of the first four holes, carding an even-par (36) front nine score. The graduate student's back nine birdies came at the par four, 454-yard 11th hole and the par five, 564-yard 15th for his second par five birdie of the day. Lyerly stands in a tie for fifth place individually.
Symon Balbin birdied the course's first three holes and added a fourth birdie on the ninth hole on his way to a one-over-par (73), currently standing tied for 16th individually. The senior captured his third birdie on a par-five hole on the 564-yard 15th hole, which helped him post a two-over-par (38) back nine score.
Randall Hudson posted a two-over-par (74), standing as the Spartans' third-lowest score in the first round. The junior carded back-to-back birdies on the par four, 400-yard fourth hole and the par four, 380-yard fifth hole to finish the front nine two-under-par (34).
Competing as an individual,
Noah Connor also posted a two-over-par (74) first round effort, placing him in a tie for 25th place. The senior rallied late in his round with two birdies in the last four holes, including both par five holes (15th and 17th holes). That helped Connor card an even par (36) back nine scorecard.
The Spartans stand in a tie for fourth place at seven-over-par (295) with Creighton. UNCG is two shots behind Drexel and UConn for second place and seven shots ahead of the leader, Butler who is even par, 288.
