Nick Lyerly cracked the top-25 leaderboard as the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team moved up three spots into a tie for ninth place after the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Club, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Lyerly's even-par (72) second round effort held him at three-over-par (147) for the tournament, moving Lyerly 20 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd place. The graduate student carded 15 pars and posted an unblemished front nine to close his round. Early in his round, Lyerly made a birdie on the par four, 460-yard 13th hole for his first birdie of the day. His final birdie came on the par five, 556-yard second hole which helped Lyerly post a one-under-par (35) front nine score.
Competing as an individual,
Connor Brown posted a one-over-par (73) second round scorecard. The sophomore earned a par on seven of nine holes on his opening nine holes, the back nine, and birdied the par five, 584-yard 12th hole. On the front nine, Brown posted a birdie on the par four, 436-yard first hole for his second birdie of the day. The sophomore earned his second par five birdie of the day on the 557-yard sixth hole. Brown stands seven-over-par (151) through two rounds moving up 24 spots following the round.
Randall Hudson turned in a three-over-par (75) scorecard to join Brown at seven-over-par through 36 holes. The junior was one of four Spartans to birdie the first hole and added a birdie on the 12th hole as part of an even-par (36) back nine effort at the start of his round.
Balbin joins Brown and Hudson at seven-over-par through 36 holes with a four-over-par (76) second round scorecard. The senior's two birdies came on the par four, 351-yard 11th hole and the par five, 543-yard 18th hole. Balbin opened the round with a one-over-par (37) score on the back nine.
The Spartans finished the second round in a tie for ninth place with a 36-hole total of 25-over-par (601) after a second round 12-over-par (300) effort. UNCG moved up three spots into a tie for ninth place with South Florida. The Spartans are three shots behind Virginia in eighth place and hold the advantage over Southern Conference foes Wofford (12th place, 32-over-par) and Mercer (tied for 14th place, 36-over-par).
