SoCon Announces Pitcher of the Week Award
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's right-handed pitcher,
Rob Ready has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The Bridgeton, N.J., native, led the Spartans to their first conference win on Saturday over Mercer, 6-1. Ready pitched the complete game, throwing a career high nine strikeouts. The junior only allowed seven hits, one run and one walk over the nine innings in his 34 batters faced.
"This award means a lot," said Ready. "Though the season is nowhere near over, we still have a lot to prove. This group of guys embraces the game, which is special. It should be fun to see what we can put together for the remainder of the season."
This is the third SoCon weekly recognition for the Spartans this season.
Caleb Cozart was tabbed the SoCon Player of the Week in the season's first round of awards, while
Julien Peissel was named the SoCon Pitcher of Week after leading the Spartans past No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
The last time UNCG had two SoCon Pitcher of the Week mentions in a season was in 2016, while the last time the Spartans earned three conference weekly awards in a season was in the 2019 season.
The Spartans will host No. 22 N.C. State on Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium for the two team's second meeting this season.
