Women’s Tennis Hosts UNC Asheville Wednesday, Travels to Campbell Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team is set to host the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts. The Spartans will then travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina, on Saturday to face Campbell at 1:00 p.m. at the James Nisbet Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into the week 0-7 overall on the 2026 season.
  • The Spartans most recently fell 4-0 at No. 21 Clemson on Sunday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
  • Prior to their matchup with the Tigers, the Spartans dropped a contest with the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 6-1, in their 2026 home opener at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
  • Sara Kostic picked up her first career win with a 0-6, 7-5, 10-6, defeat over Elizabeth Novak of Richmond on court two.
  • Ivet Sala-Sánchez collected her first collegiate singles win and first singles victory for the Spartans on the 2026 season after defeating Olivia Hooper of Davidson, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, at court six.
  • The Spartans took on three-straight ACC opponents to begin the spring slate, falling in their spring opening doubleheader at No. 14 Virginia (7-0, 4-0) on Thursday, Jan. 15. UNCG dropped a match at No. 11 N.C. State on Sunday, Jan. 18, 7-0 and fell at Wake Forest, 7-0, on Friday, Jan. 30.
  • UNCG competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall slate.
  • UNCG concluded the 2025 regular season 3-18 overall and 0-7 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
  • Lauren Thomson finished on top for the Spartans in singles for the second consecutive year after tallying eight wins on the 2025 campaign. 
  • Sydney Bly led the team last season with nine total doubles wins.
  • Head Coach Mat Iandolo is in his second season at the helm of the UNCG women's tennis program.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • UNC Asheville comes to Greensboro with a 1-3 mark on the 2026 season.
  • The Bulldogs' lone win came at South Carolina State, 7-0, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on Feb. 7.
  • UNC Asheville fell in its season opener on Jan. 30 at App State, 7-0.
  • The Bulldogs have dropped their last two matches, falling in a battle at Eastern Kentucky, 4-3, on Feb. 13 and to Western Kentucky on Feb. 14, 5-2.
  • Sofia Segul is pacing the Bulldogs with a 3-1 overall record in singles play.
  • Valeria Centeno and Angelina Joy Hug are following closely behind with two wins apiece.
  • Mariai Sol Alvarez Brandon and Avery Sager are the best doubles team for the Bulldogs so far this season with a 2-1 mark.
  • UNC Asheville concluded the 2025 season 12-7 overall and 4-1 in the Big South.
  • The Bulldogs secured last season's contest with UNCG, 6-1, on Feb. 28, 2025, in Greensboro.
  • Head Coach Jeff Maren is in his first season at the helm of the UNC Asheville women's tennis program.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
  • Campbell currently stands at 1-4 overall on the 2026 campaign.
  • The Camels' only win this season came against Barton on Feb. 9, 6-1, in Buies Creek.
  • Five different Camels picked up a singles win, while doubles duos Aubrey Carroll & Hayley Glen and Ilouna Aneca & Mollie Garcis secured the doubles point for the team.
  • All four losses have been 7-0 shutouts for the Camels this season including, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 11 NC State and most recently Coastal Carolina.
  • Campbell wrapped up the 2025 season 8-9 overall and 3-2 in the CAA.
  • UNCG and Campbell met last season in Greensboro in a back-and-forth battle that the Camels were able to secure, 4-3, on Jan. 25, 2025.
  • Head Coach Mike Stevens is in his seventh season leading the Campbell women's tennis program.
  • Campbell will travel to Conway, South Carolina, on Wednesday to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers before hosting the Spartans on Saturday.

UP NEXT
The Spartans return to Greensboro on Saturday, Feb. 28 to begin their SoCon slate with ETSU at 1:00 p.m. The team will then face Big South foe Gardner-Webb on Sunday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at either the UNCG Tennis Courts or the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, depending on weather.
