Baseball Hosts No. 16 Wake Forest at UNCG Baseball Stadium

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will welcome No. 16 Wake Forest to UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.  This will be the second time aranked team will travel to Greensboro this season, with the first on opening weekend against then-ranked No. 18 Kentucky.

  LAST TIME OUT   

  • The Spartans most recently captured their first series sweep of the season against Canisius, 12-2, on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium. 

  • The Spartans went 4-1 on the week, losing at Davidson on Tuesday but taking all four home games against North Carolina A&T and Canisius.  

  • Noah Chapman achieved his new career-high in strikeouts with 12 in the 3-1 win against Canisius on Friday.  

  • Cleanup hitter Jake Mueller had seven hits on 18 at-bats last week for a .389 average to lead the team.  

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS    

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: hit batters (4th/23), triples (4th/5), doubles plays (13th/8), stolen bases (33rd/17) and sacrifice flies (57th/4).  

  • Brantley Truitt has been an offensive dynamo this season, driving in eight RBIs to lead the team.  

  • Catcher JJ Parsons leads the team in stolen bases with five so far this season.  

  • Freshman Thomas Hester recorded his first collegiate save against N.C. A&T on Wednesday and added another save against Canisius on Sunday. 

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll.    

  • Junior left-handed pitcher Chapman was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team ahead of the season after throwing 68.1 innings with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances in 2025.     

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.      

  • The Blue & Gold returns 20 players from last year's squad while adding 16 newcomers to the roster. Eleven of them are freshmen this year.     

  • A plethora of impactful pitchers return to the 2026 squad, including Grant Aycock and Hunter Shuey who have earned All-SoCon nods in previous seasons.    

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis enters his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 58-58 record during his time.     

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS 

  • Wake Forest comes into Greensboro with a 5-1 overall record, most recently sweeping Siena in Winston-Salem this past weekend.  

  • The Demon Deacons boast one of the strongest pitching staff in the nation, leading the nation in strikeouts-per-nine innings with 15.6 and are ranked 40th in earned run average with 3.30.  

  • Javar Williams is ninth in the nation in stolen bases with nine so far this season.  

  • Dalton Wentz and Luke Costello lead the team in RBIs with 10 apiece.  

  • Cameron Bagwell will make his second start of the season for Wake Forest against UNCG.  

  • Head Coach Tom Walter enters his 17th season as head of the program, going 503-387 in his time there.  
      

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE DEMON DEACONS 
Wake Forest leads the series 50-18, with the Demon Deacons winning the last matchup in Winston-Salem, 6-3. However, the Spartans have took the last two games played in Greensboro, winning 4-4 in 2024 and 4-0 in 2025 at UNCG Baseball Stadium
