SoCon Announces Men's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week for the second time this season and third of his career, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Hernandez finished on top for the Spartans and tied for seventh place in the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Tuesday with a two-under-par (214). He posted a two-over-par (74) in the opening round on Sunday before notching back-to-back rounds of two-under-par (70). This marks the second time this season that Hernandez has finished a tournament in the top ten.

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native recorded nine birdies, 38 pars and a 4.75 par five average across the three-round tournament. He is currently ninth in the SoCon with a 72.22 stroke average.

"I'm really grateful and honored to be named SoCon Golfer of the Week again," said Hernandez. "Being able to compete in Puerto Rico and play at home made it even more special. Having that support and representing where I'm from means a lot to me. I'm thankful for my coaches, teammates and my family for always backing me. I'm focused on continuing to improve and help our team compete at a high level."

This is Hernandez's third SoCon weekly mention of his career and second of the season for him and the UNCG men's golf team. Hernandez was also named SoCon Golfer of the Week on Feb. 11, 2026, while his first-ever weekly accolade came on Sept. 11, 2024, when he notched his first collegiate win in the Bryan National Collegiate.
